Indiana Investment Watch Launches Investor Protection Campaign
The Indiana Investment Watch is running an online advertising campaign to educate investors on how to spot and avoid online investment fraud. The campaign is built around four fictional companies. The ads are placed on websites frequented by online investors. When an investor clicks on the ad, a message from Indiana Securities Commissioner Chris Naylor will explain that the advertised investment is not a real investment, but is instead an example of an ad for a common online investment scheme.
The Investor Protection Trust, a nonprofit organization that works to improve investor education across the United States, has provided a grant to fund the Watch's campaign. The Indiana Securities Division - the state's investigation department for online investment fraud - has high hopes that the ads will help protect Indiana's investors.
"The ads, websites and videos all incorporate techniques fraudsters commonly use to solicit victims," said Secretary of State Todd Rokita, who runs the Division.
